Human Resources Assistant

Blacksburg VA

Required Qualifications: Previous experience in a human resources specialty area or administrative office that demonstrates an understanding of the compliance, operational, organizational, and strategic issues in the workplace; experience with payroll or hours reporting functions; demonstrated experience handling sensitive and confidential information; exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner; interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment; remain calm and polite in stressful situations; and exercise excellent judgment, and discretion. The successful candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a variety of competing demands; and demonstrated ability to work independently without supervision. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a two or four-year degree; previous experience working in a human resources office or processing of personnel related paperwork; experience with electronic applicant tracking systems or human resource information system (HRIS). Required Qualifications: - Ph.D. in a Bioscience, Business, Engineering or other technically related field. - Experience with modeling and measuring large-scale social, biological, or communication systems. - Extensive experience with patent prosecution, and development and management of software and data products from inception to delivery and support. - Experience with social and enterprise data products. - Experience developing and communicating educational information on intellectual property to internal and external constituents. - Excellent communication, organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities. - Ability to work autonomously and within a collaborative environment. - Demonstrated experience in problem solving, presentation skills and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications: - Eligible for a security clearance. - Demonstrated experience in the management of intellectual property with industrial partners in an academic setting. - Ability to understand and effectively navigate the academic culture. - Knowledge of federal intellectual property guidelines and requirements.
